Magic School Character Chatbot!

 Hello there!

Today I’ll be talking about my experience at Magic School which is an AI tool that offers a lot of different types of services. Creating lesson plans, solving math story problems and generating songs are just a few of those services. Recently, I had the chance to use Character Chatbot and Writing Feedback features and I want to introduce them to you. Due to an assignment that I had, I was to choose a figure and had a chat with them through Character Chatbot. Me and my friend Yüsra agreed upon Jon Bokenkamp who is the creator of the award-winning show “The Blacklist”. We asked ‘him’ 10 questions varying from his starting point of creating the series to a piece of advice for writers. Below, you can find the result:

I can say that we encountered some really good tips on writing. After writing a report that summarizes our experience with the Chatbot, we uploaded it to Writing Feedback and asked for feedback on our use of language, coherence and style. When we received feedback, we revised the report and made some of the recommended changes. Here are the both versions of the reports:

The tool not only shows you the weaknesses, but also the strengths of your paper which I think is a good feature. It might be useful for improving the efficiency without depending on someone.

Overall, I think the website has so much potential to improve language teaching and learning. It can be utilized to create worksheets about the students’ favourite characters or simply by making them chat with the bot to draw their attention. I believe it also makes learning a language alone more interesting and less alone. However, I must say that the answers were too real that it made it feel artificial. The chat was good but I thought “Would that be their real answer?”, “It feels invading since this bot is owning their ideas and experiences." Maybe it happened because we chose a real person who is still alive. When you think of it as a fun activity it looks fine but if you were to question it, you can’t help but ask “Is there a limit for AI?”

What do you think about this topic? Are you planning to use this feature? If you do, don’t forget to come back and tell me about it!

Also I’m leaving the link of my friend Yüsra’s post here so you can see her perspective as well.
